Managing your subscription

Once you decide to move off a trial or change plans, everything you need lives in one place: your billing settings. This page walks through checking out, changing plans, canceling, and what the billing health banner is telling you.

Subscribing to a paid plan, or changing your plan, hands you off to Stripe checkout to enter your payment details securely. Menu Author never stores your card details itself; Stripe handles payment on Menu Author’s behalf.

From your billing settings, open the billing portal to manage your subscription yourself: update your payment method, view past invoices, and see your current plan, all without waiting on support.

Upgrade at any time to move to a bigger plan when you need more restaurants, menus, users, or features. An upgrade takes effect right away, so you get access to everything the new plan includes as soon as you confirm it.

Moving to a smaller plan works differently. Instead of downgrading immediately, Menu Author schedules the change for the end of your current billing period, and shows you a preview of what will change first, so you know exactly what you are agreeing to before it happens. If you change your mind before the scheduled date arrives, choose Keep current plan to cancel the scheduled downgrade and stay where you are.

You can cancel a paid plan immediately or let it run until the end of your current billing period. Either way, Menu Author shows you an impact preview first, so you can see what canceling will change before you confirm it.

Changed your mind after canceling? Reactivate your subscription in one click, no need to go through checkout again from scratch.

A billing health banner appears on your account whenever something needs your attention: a payment that is past due, or a plan that has ended. It tells you what is wrong and what to do about it, so you are never left guessing why a menu suddenly locked.

  1. Open your billing settings and choose the smaller plan you want to move to.
  2. Review the preview of what changes on the new plan before you confirm.
  3. Confirm the downgrade. It takes effect at the end of your current billing period, not immediately.
  4. Changed your mind? Choose Keep current plan at any point before the scheduled date to cancel the change and stay on your current plan.

Next, see Plan limits and locked menus for what happens if a payment lapses or you go over a plan limit.
