Plan limits and locked menus

Every plan comes with limits on how much you can have on your account, and a few features are reserved for paid plans. This page covers how to keep an eye on your usage, what happens if a menu ends up locked, and exactly which features need a paid plan.

Your billing settings show usage meters for your restaurants, menus, and users, so you can see at a glance how close you are to your plan’s limits. Exact limits differ by plan and can change, so check the pricing page for the current numbers. Professional + Website has the same limits as Professional.

If you go over a plan limit, or your subscription lapses, whether your Professional trial ended without a subscription, a payment went past due, or a plan ended, one or more of your menus can end up locked. A locked menu shows a Locked badge and becomes read-only: you can still view it, but you cannot edit it until you resolve the issue. Re-subscribe, or otherwise bring your account current, to unlock it again.

How many past versions of a menu you can go back to also depends on your plan. Professional keeps your most recent 10 versions, Ultimate keeps your most recent 30. See Saving, autosave, and version history for browsing and restoring them.

A few features are only available once you are on a paid plan:

  • Menu translations: adding other languages to your menu. See Translate your menu.
  • Hiding “Powered by Menu Author”: removing the default credit from your published menu. See Your public menu page.
  • A featured image for SEO and link previews: the image shown when your menu is shared or found in search, also covered in Your public menu page.
  • Additional sub-accounts: adding accounts beyond your own.
  1. Open the menu showing the Locked badge.
  2. Check the billing health banner on your account for why: a payment past due, a plan that ended, or a trial that ended without a subscription.
  3. Re-subscribe, or update your payment method, from your billing settings to bring your account current. See Managing your subscription.
  4. Once your account is active again, the Locked badge clears and the menu is editable again.

That covers plan limits and gating. See Plans and the free trial for comparing plans, and Managing your subscription for changing or canceling your plan.
