Keyboard shortcuts and touch

The editor is built for a keyboard and mouse first, but it also works on a tablet and on a phone, with touch gestures in place of clicks and drags. It is the same editor everywhere, not a lighter version.

The one you will use most is Cmd+S on a Mac or Ctrl+S on Windows, which saves your menu immediately instead of waiting on autosave. For a full table of every keyboard shortcut, see Keyboard shortcuts. The same table is available inside the app, on the Help page.

Hold Space and drag, or drag with the middle mouse button, to pan the canvas from anywhere in the editor, no matter what tool or element is active. The browser’s back-swipe gesture is blocked while your pointer is over the canvas, so a sideways scroll can never throw you out of your menu.

On a tablet, touch gestures take the place of a mouse. Tap an element to select it, and double-tap an element to jump straight into editing it. Pinch with two fingers to zoom the canvas in or out. Property panels appear as a bottom sheet that slides up from the bottom of the screen, rather than sitting fixed to the side as they do on a larger screen.

  1. Tap the item you want to change to select it.
  2. Double-tap it to start editing it directly.
  3. Pinch to zoom in if you need a closer look at what you are changing.
  4. Use the bottom sheet that slides up to adjust the item’s properties.
  5. Tap outside the item to deselect it when you are done.

The full editor works on a phone. You can select and move elements, pinch to zoom, edit text, add and remove dishes, sections, and images, switch pages, undo and redo, change the theme, and publish, which makes a phone the quickest way to fix a price or mark a dish sold out during service.

To make room for your menu, the editor hides the app’s sidebar and header on a phone. Back, Undo, Redo, Share, Save, and Publish stay in reach at the top, and everything else is tucked into a More menu. Breadcrumbs collapse into a single menu so the page you are on always has room.

Touch works a little differently on a small screen:

  • Drag with one finger to pan the canvas.
  • Tap an element to select it. Its properties slide up in a sheet over the lower half of the screen, and the canvas scrolls to keep the element in view. Drag the sheet up for the full panel, or down to close it.
  • Hold an element for a moment to pick it up, then drag to move it, so panning and moving never fight each other.
  • Pinch to zoom your menu, not the whole browser page.
  • Double tap an empty part of the canvas to switch between fitting the page and zooming twice as close.

The editor works in portrait on a phone. Turn the phone sideways and it asks you to rotate it back; your work is waiting when you do. On a very narrow screen you may see a notice asking you to use a larger phone, a tablet, or a computer.
